Inserts fill every ridge, then the sheets go flat

Steel container walls are corrugated, which makes them hard to cover with flat board. Our kits handle the ridges first, so the sheets go on flat.

Every insert is hot-wire cut from a saved CNC program in American Fork, so the pieces match from one ridge to the next.

What's in a kit

Two layers of EPS, cut to fit the box

  1. Layer 1

    Ridge inserts

EPS profiles cut to the shape of the corrugations. They press into the channels on the side walls, end wall and ceiling, and the steel turns into a flat surface.

  2. Layer 2

    Flat EPS sheets

2.5 inch, 4x8 ft EPS sheets that go over the filled walls and ceiling, edge to edge.

  3. Your finish

    Optional

Cover the foam with the wall finish you want, or leave it for a shop or storage box.

Kit sizes

20 ft and 40 ft kits

High cube walls are taller inside, so we size high cube kits to match and confirm the part list with your quote.

Insert profiles

Cut to the shape of each ridge

Every insert is a trapezoid: a narrow top, a wide base and a depth that matches the channel. Nominal sizes:

Side wall

1-5/16 in. deep

2-5/8 in. top · 7-7/8 in. base · 8 ft long

End wall

1-9/16 in. deep

4 in. top · 5-3/8 in. base · 8 ft long

Ceiling

5/8 in. deep

3-3/8 in. top · 4-1/4 in. base · 8 ft long

Ridge sizes can differ between container makers. Send a photo of one ridge with a tape across it and we'll check the fit before we cut.

From our shop

Cut from a saved CNC program

We nest the inserts on the CNC hot-wire so a full set comes out of the block in one run. A reorder runs from the same program and matches the first kit.

FAQ

Container kit questions

Don't see your question? Call or email us.

What is a shipping container insulation kit?

It's a set of EPS foam pieces cut to fit the inside of a steel shipping container. Ridge inserts fill the corrugation channels on the side walls, end wall and ceiling so those surfaces turn flat, then flat 4x8 EPS sheets go over the top. Rapid Insulation cuts and fabricates every kit in American Fork, Utah.

What container sizes do you make kits for?

We cut kits for 20 ft and 40 ft containers, in standard height (8'6") and high cube (9'6"). Tell us the length and height of your container and we'll send the part list with your quote.

Why use ridge inserts instead of just foam board?

A container wall is corrugated, so flat board laid against it only touches the high points and leaves an open channel behind every ridge. The inserts fill those channels first. Then the sheets sit flat and tight against a flat surface, with no hollow spots behind them.

Will the inserts fit my container?

Our inserts are cut to the common side wall, end wall and ceiling profiles. Ridge sizes can vary between container makers, so send us a photo of one ridge with a tape measure across it, or the width and depth, and we'll check the fit before we cut.

What comes in a 40 ft standard kit?

A 40 ft standard kit has 152 ridge inserts, all 8 ft long: 90 for the side walls, 7 for the end wall and 55 for the ceiling. It also includes 39 flat EPS sheets, 2.5 inches thick and 4x8 ft.

How do I install a container insulation kit?

Clean and dry the inside of the container. Press each ridge insert into its channel, wide side in, and trim pieces to length with a saw or knife where needed. Once every channel is filled, lay the 2.5 inch sheets over the walls and ceiling edge to edge, then fasten them with the method we recommend on your quote.

Can I pick up the kit, or do you deliver?

Pick up your kit at our shop in American Fork, Utah, by appointment, or we can deliver it to your site. Delivery is quoted per job. If you'd like help with the install, ask us when you request your quote.

Can you reorder the same kit later?

Yes. Each insert profile is cut from a saved CNC program, so a second kit for another container matches the first one.
